Illustreets for education

Created by Manuel Timita.

I'm a Developer in London, United Kingdom. I'm currently freelancing. I earned a B.S. from Open University, UK.

Project Description

Illustreets ( is a location research tool for England. It offers detailed information about any address, including average prices and rents, schools, public transport, census data, and crime rates.

The application features an advanced school explorer. The users can simply click on the map, or type in a postcode, and get the nearest 5 to 15 schools which then can be filtered by Ofsted rating, gender, and phase of education.

See the school explorer in action here:

Once a particular school is selected, all the information available for it is presented in an easy to navigate format.

We aim to help those looking to move house make an informed decision. In this respect, most parents regard the availability of good schools as an essential requirement. As such, the school explorer integrated into Illustreets is a top priority for us. We are looking into developing the concept further.

We are looking for a developer, ideally someone who is experienced in working with open data and / or developing geospatial applications, to help us improve the existing schools section and, importantly, create an API and a library for third party integrations.

Project Goals

  • Extend the functionality of Illustreets to include an option for filtering the map areas by proximity to good schools.

  • Expose an API to allow third party organisations to add the school explorer's full functionality into their products.

  • Release a library and set of widgets to help non-technical site owners integrate the school explorer functionality.
