Forrage: A social and sustainable market for gear.

Created by Alyson Jones.

I'm a Designer in Bend, OR. I work at Stone Table Design. Previously, I've worked at Nordstrom Direct (Image Production), Voix (Visual Designer & Image Production), Spotlight (Visual Designer & Image Production). I earned a B.F.A. from University of Washington.

Project Description

Forrage is a niche online market for buying and trading outdoor gear. Users can shop for new items (which take them directly to the exterior store site) or they can browse similar items that are up for trade. We are piggybacking off the affiliate programs of outdoor gear companies (like, rei, etc.) to build inventory, drive traffic, and generate kickback income for Forrage.

We're passionate about the outdoors and sustainability. We want to offer users an alternative way to shop online by integrating a trade community alongside new merchandise. The outdoor gear market has an enormous turnover rate - as far as used gear goes - and we want to keep gear circulating while it still has life and potential!

Forrage needs backend development. If possible, we would love to find someone passionate about the outdoors and sustainability.

Project Goals

  • Finalize designs and frontend.

  • Build a working relationship with a backend developer.

  • Finalize a beta site for user testing.

This look like an great project, really interested in your approach to create social and sustainable market. Is this focused on used gear as well as new? Or just selling products from inventory?

Hi Eric! Yes, users will be able to trade their used gear on the site. These used items will be matched to new items so buyers can see a similar, sustainable product option while they browse.
