The Birthdays Project

Description

Every day 18 million people share the same birthday. Wouldn’t it be great if you could connect those people together to make their day more special?

That’s the idea behind The Birthdays Project.

Last year I designed and began building the front-end of a very basic version of thebirthdaysproject.com. With my very limited development skills, I soon found myself in over my head.

This is where a talented developer(s) steps in.

Though I could probably hack and muddle my way through a basic version of the site, I know that there is a big and powerful idea behind this that warrants more technical attention than I can provide. Although an obvious path to riches isn’t acutely obvious right now, I see this as a fun little project that could go in a number of directions and I’d love to work with people who are excited to see where it goes.

At the moment the site exists as a landing page with a few hundred sign-ups which you can see here. http://thebirthdaysproject.com/

Goals

  • Create a basic version of the site that allows users to sign up and exchange gifts
  • Create an expanded service that allows users to celebrate together (still to be defined and ideas are welcome).

This is a pretty good idea. I can definitely see this being incorporated into a social network, as a mini-app. The basic idea is that birthdays provide a common ground for people to make connections with others who would otherwise be anonymous?

Thanks Josh, yes thats the idea. I love the reaction people have when they discover they share the same birthday. There is a definitely a connection there.
