At the Hop
Created by Luis Fonseca.
I'm a Developer in Bronx, NY. I'm currently freelancing. I earned a M.A. from Manhattan College.
Isolation in the elderly affects their well being. It is a significant, national and local, concern as that demographic grows. There are many obstacles that make isolation a fact of life for many and the impact that it has on the individual as well as the community is quite negative.
At the center of At the Hop is the human and technological structure that supports and encourages seniors to remotely communicate with selected college students who in turn support and encourage seniors to participate in a wide array of activities online and/or offline.
A prototype website is now in place. that show the orientation of the project. Minimum requirement is a website, for information and registration and Ideally 3 people to get The program up and running.
Things to be done include:
Getting in touch with schools to make them aware of the program and to sign up students to participate.
Getting in touch with institutions such as libraries, churches, health centers to make the aware of program and in turn let their constituents know of the service.
Basic help in maintaining a database and web page for registration.
Having a telephone support line.
The main focus to the services is the video chat. There are reasonable tools available to do this. The core of the work is building the network of people to help manage and maintain it.
It can be very simple to start and we are prepared to scale according to its growth.
