Frequent Questions

  • What is CollabFinder?

CollabFinder is a place for designers and developers to find meet in order to find collaborators for personal projects. It's not a place to find employees or to look for employment, it's a place to meet other smart people in order to build great apps.

  • How does ranking work?

Ranking is primarily based off of a person's project links. We use a set of web tools (mostly public APIs) to judge how popular and meaningful projects links are and base a person's rank based on that popularity. We decided to make project links the primary ranking tool because it is simple, transparent, and a website's popularity on the web is in many ways a vote of confidence by a large group of people. We know it's not a perfect system, and if you have any suggestions on how to improve our ranking feel free to email us at talk@collabfinder.com.

  • How can I send messages to poeple?

Firstly, you must Create a CollabFinder profile. After you've done that and are signed into Collabfinder a "Message" link will appear in any person's profile card that hasn't marked themselves as "busy." Just click that link and a message form will appear and you can send that person a message in just a few seconds. It's easy, give it a try.

  • What is "Following"?

Following a person means you want to be notified when that person posts new projects or changes their status from Busy to open. You can either follow someone via RSS, or, if you're signed into your CollabFinder account, you can add them to your site-wide newsfeed, making it easy to keep track of all the designers and developers you want to hear more about. The newsfeed is great, we suggest you try it out! :D

  • What do those status messages mean?

If someone simply has a "Send Message" link in their profile footer it means they're open to hearing from people about their projects and collaborating on something. If a profile has an addition like "looking for designers" it means they're particularly interested in hearing from designers, probably because they have an idea that they need a designer to help him or her build.

  • How do I post my profile to CollabFinder?

Glad you asked! It's quite easy, just head over to the profile form, spend a few moments filling it in, and you're done. Easy. Now you can follow people, send messages to brilliant designers and developers, and turn that brilliant idea of yours into something real and great with a bit of help.

  • How do I reset my password?

You can reset your password using our password reset form. All you need is the email address you signed up with. Once you fill out the form we'll email you a new password and you can start messaging potential collaborators or update your profile.

  • How do I delete my profile?

You can delete your profile by clicking the "delete my profile" link at the bottom of your dashboard when you're signed into CollabFinder. We'll ask you to confirm you want to delete your account and then go ahead and delete it if you so desire.

  • Someone wrongfully claimed my project, what can I do?
